SML Training System in Second Life – Complete Beginner’s Guide

What is [SML] Training System This post aims to give a general introduction to Second Life resident new and old who have yet to try the SML Gym Training System. The SML Training System in Second Life is one of the most popular gym and bodybuilding roleplay systems available in-world. Built around a HUD-based workout and progression system, SML (often called SML Training) is a HUD-based workout system where residents train with interactive gym equipment to increase strength, stamina, and level progression for their avatars. The results is visual where you will be able to carry higher load of the weights on the interactive gym equipments. Unlike pose-only gyms, SML introduces stamina management, daily limits, and recovery mechanics, making workouts feel realistic and rewarding.


From my last observation from the [SML] Training Group, there are at least over a thousand active members interacting inside special [SML] gyms across Second Life.


How to Join the SML Training System in Second Life


Getting started with SML is simple and beginner-friendly:

  • Teleport to Flexington Height, the HQ of [SML] and walk into a warehouse with the [SML] logo.

  • You will see the [SML] Training HUD giver board and the group joiner board below.

  • Join the official SML group

  • Click on the HUD giver board to obtain and wear the [SML] Training HUD

  • Please read the HUD manual before you start.

  • Walk back out and turn left. You will see two SML gym board where all the partner gym are represented. Visit a any one of them to start your journey.

  • At anytime if you have any question, you can ask in the [SML] Group. They have some of the most helpful people in this community.

Understanding the SML Training HUD Interface

The SML Training HUD (shown above) tracks all training activity in real time.

Stamina System: Stamina is displayed as a blue circular meter and drains while working out:

  • Violet: below 40% stamina

  • Red: below 20% stamina

  • Empty: workout failure — training stops automatically

  • Stamina recovers while resting.

State Light Indicator

  • Green: actively training

  • Yellow: resting and recovering stamina

  • Blue: paused state (strength mismatch, mini-games, or unsupported poses)

Level and Experience (EXP): Your Level represents overall training progression. EXP increases while using SML-compatible equipment and determines when you level up.

Strength: Strength determines which gym equipment you can use, how much weight on each equipment you can life visually and how effectively you can train.

Gold and Inventory: Gold is earned through workouts and can be used at SML logo stores to buy workout supplements. Purchased items are stored in the HUD inventory (up to six items).

Fatigue (Daily Training Limit): Fatigue limits how much you can train per day. Once depleted, training stops until the daily reset at 5 PM SL Time (UTC).


How Training Works in SML Gyms

To train, simply sit on SML-compatible workout equipment while wearing the HUD. There are two categories of training equipment's.

  • White-framed equipment are for beginners when you strength are lower than 330. These simulates more realistic weight plates.

  • Red-framed equipment are for advance players whose has the strength of 330 and above. These are also called power equipment where the amounts of weight you can lift are totally exaggerated into the fantasy rim.


All equipment are animated with high quality and realistic weight lifting animations simulating those in real life.


During training:

  • Stamina and fatigue decrease

  • Strength, EXP, and gold increase

  • Training stops automatically if stamina or strength is too low

This system encourages consistent, realistic training routines rather than endless grinding.


Supplements & Training Aids

The Daily Workout feature highlights specific equipment to use and resets every day at 5 PM SL Time. The supplements and training aids can be classified into 3 categories:

  • Supplement bottles: There are a total of 15 types of different supplements where you can either purchase or collect from the SML gyms. These supplements can help to temporary gain different amount of strength & stamina pool; slow depletion of stamina and quicken stamina recovery.

  • Fatigue Recovery Aid: There are 5 minutes and 10 minutes fatigue recovery aids to extend your daily training time by the respective amount.

  • Experience booster: There 50% and 100% experience booster to boost your experience gain which help you to level up quicker but there are limits to how many aids you can obtain each day depending on your level. These special boosters are only available at the SML HQ located on Flexington Height region. They are not available in all the rest of the partners' gym.

Other Training Aids (for Convenience)

There are two other training aids that aim to make your training more convenience. They are:

  • The [SML] Wrist band: This helps the system remember the last 7 exercise and weight level so you do not have to keep selecting the weight level from the popup menu.

  • The [SML] Sports Bag: This effectively increase your carrying capacity and provide you with 8 more slots to temporary store the supplements.

Daily Workout

On the top left of the [SML] Training HUD, you can assess the daily workouts. There are a total of 5 daily workouts you can perform and be reward with either Gold, supplements or training aids mentioned above., For beginners you may not be able to complete all the 5 exercise at the beginning due to the strength level requirement. But once you pass level 15, you should be able to do them all.


Training With Support (Spotter)

Some of the [SML] Training equipments feature the spotter system where another avatar can hop on the equipment while you train to support you. The result is visually you can lift the next level of weights. This helps you to benefits from the spotter's strength so you can one level of weights you can lift whether with supplements or not. The result is you will gain experience and strength at a faster rate. The equipments that allow this feature are:

  • White-framed equipment: Bench Press & Preacher Bench

  • Red-framed Power Equipment: Power Bench Press, Power Preacher Bench & Power Squat



Weekly Strength Challenge At Flexington Height, there are two weekly strength challenge board for different level range. Winning the challenge reward you with gold and special [SML] Block Friday Strength Booster. Each strength booster gives you a 50% boost for 30 minutes.

Why SML Training Is Popular in Second Life?

The SML Training System adds structure, progression, and realism to Second Life gym roleplay. For residents interested in bodybuilding, fitness RP, or immersive lifestyle sims, SML offers a long-term, goal-driven experience that rewards dedication and routine.


SML gyms provide immersive environments where you can use the HUD, train on machines, and progress over time. While much of SML training is a solo progression system, many residents turn it into a social experience, meeting friends, training together, and building gym communities.
